As Thanksgiving approaches in 2024, our nation has a great deal for which to be thankful. But first, we must examine the tribulation that has brought our nation to its current condition. For the past several decades, America has slowly (and quickly) retreated from the Judeo/Christian principles upon which it was founded.
All human troubles hearken back to the Original Sin, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. The Old Testament is full of numerous examples of when His chosen people [Israel] turned away from God. When from the beginning of Creation, God’s desire was to have devoted and personal relationship with mankind.
“The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3
Thankfully, the Bible also depicts a multitude of examples about God pouring out His love, grace, mercy and kindness to those who had abandoned Him. Countless times God forgave His people through second, third, fourth (and beyond) chances to be redeemed. Well, it appears that God has given America a second chance – will we embrace it?
When we as individuals and/or a nation drift away from God and succumb to the secular influences to be our ‘go-to,’ God will not chase us down. Instead, He will allow the free will He gave us from the beginning to be our be our rudder. We certainly have found ourselves navigating through some pretty choppy waters, haven’t we? But, where was God? Oh that’s right, we put Him on a shelf because we thought could get through the tough times the worldly way!
Over time, we God-loving Americans have abdicated our responsibility to uphold our representative republic and allowed evil to permeate every aspect of our society. Until this election in 2024, we sat idly by as our freedoms were squashed; our children were exposed to abhorrent content in schools; our borders were invaded; our national debt went off the charts; our military weaponry was given to underserving nations and replaced with DEI and pronouns; our country was shut down because of an evil mad scientist; government agencies catered to illegal aliens and ignored citizens; despite a more watchful eye by conservatives our elections were still not fair/transparent; parental rights to protect children from mutilating their genitals was not protected; killing babies in the womb was still priority one for the Left; biological males competed in female sports and paraded around the locker room; America has become a haven for human trafficking; and all the while the media has spewed lies and Socialist propaganda to influence their audiences. I have to stop this list because I’m about to scream.
Now, for the good news. God has given us a second chance! Before we say “hallelujah” and move on, let’s examine perhaps why He has given us this blessing. Chapter two of the Book of Daniel reminds us that all civil authorities, elected or otherwise, are servants of God – even the evil ones. God’s sovereignty extends to rulers of nations.
“He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who has understanding!” Daniel 2:21
If God is so loving, why did He “set up” Obama – who is currently serving his third term as president? Why didn’t He “set up” Trump to be re-elected in 2020? Why did He allow all the evil, corruption, disfunction, and disasters during these past three-plus years, which has brought us to the brink of World War III?
There is an important distinction to be made between God controlling evil and God creating evil. God is not the author of sin, but He can use sinful men to attain an objective. When the Israelites were exiled to Babylon, God was using the Babylonians (an evil people) to accomplish His will. Our wise and perfect God can and sometimes does use the sin already existing in our world to fulfill His purpose. The perfect example of this is Jesus’ crucifixion: the murder of Christ was an evil act, but through it God redeemed those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ. That’s the best second chance anyone could receive.
“In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.” Colossians 2:15
Politics has plummeted into the gutter in this country because America has drifted away from its Christian roots. If we remove the root cause of a problem, and we remove the problem. Return America to its Christian roots and we will begin to re-introduce integrity, grace, and service back into all aspects of American life.
As a result of God allowing the infirmity of our nation to reach a crescendo, He got our attention. Conservative believers woke up to the truth that we had been suffering through the collapse of America without God. This wake-up call renewed our faith, and brought us to our knees. In preparation for the election on November 5, 2024 we relied on God; prayed that He would restore our nation; and put Him back as number One in our lives.
In fact, new study is suggesting that it was Christian voters who were the decisive factor in Trump’s win. It was reported that 72% of those who came out to vote were Christians, who gave a 17 million vote advantage or cushion to Donald Trump.
Just look what has happened since Trump was victorious. The left-wing media is dismantling due to severe decline in viewership; Joe and Mika are graveling at Mar-a-Lago; Hamas wants to suddenly return to the negotiating table; Putin is considering talks to end the war with Ukraine (despite Joe/Obama escalating the war and sending millions $ without Congressional authority); Mexico is willing to comply with ‘remain in Mexico’ policy; the sham Alvin Bragg case in NY is on the verge of being overturned; General “I want to understand white rage” Milley no longer thinks Trump is Hitler; just to name a few examples of the impact of Trump’s re-election.
God has given President Trump a second (and third) chance at life. He has also given him a second chance to make America great again! This election has also given Americans hope - something that was missing in America. This, too, is our second chance to keep God front and center of thoughts, words, and actions. Let’s all be grateful this Thanksgiving and truly embrace His blessing on our nation.
