In the aftermath of the assassination attempt on (former and hopefully future) President Trump, there has been a great deal of discussion, articles, and posts on social media about God and His grace, providence, consecration and anointing concerning Trump. One such post on X was accompanied by a picture of Trump’s bloody face, which implies he was “consecrated” by God:
“In the Bible the concept of blood on the right ear (Leviticus 8:22-24 and 14:28) serves as a visible mark of consecration, signifying that the person is dedicated to God's service and has been set apart for a specific purpose. This act represents a physical and spiritual transformation, preparing the individual for their sacred role. Here's a breakdown of the significance:
*Right ear: The right ear represents hearing and obedience. In ancient times, the right ear was considered the most important ear, as it was the ear that heard the words of God.
*Blood: Blood represents life, sacrifice, and atonement. In this context, the blood is a symbol of purification and consecration. *Consecration: Consecration means to set something or someone apart for a specific purpose, making it holy and dedicated to God. In this case, the blood on the right ear signifies that the person is being set apart for a sacred task or role.
*Priestly consecration: In Leviticus 8, the blood is applied to the right ear of Aaron and his sons, consecrating them as priests. This act sets them apart as mediators between God and the people.
*Purification: In Leviticus 14, the blood is applied to the right ear of the person being cleansed, symbolizing their purification and restoration to the community.”Let’s put the brakes on a bit. While chapter 13 of the Book of Romans tells us that God has instituted human government, and no government exists apart from His will. This does not mean that He approves of all that human rulers do. He certainly does not approve of corruption, brutality, and tyranny! But the fact remains that the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
It’s important to study Bible passages and stories within their context. Taking verses out of context leads to all kinds of error and misunderstanding. Understanding context begins with four principles: literal meaning (what it says), historical setting (the events of the story, to whom is it addressed, and how it was understood at that time), grammar (the immediate sentence and paragraph within which a word or phrase is found) and synthesis (comparing it with other parts of Scripture for a fuller meaning).
While the above post is kind of exciting to think of the possible significance of Trump’s bullet wound and shed blood from his right ear, which he touched with his right hand (thumb), and lost the shoe of his right foot, we must not conclude this was God’s way of consecrating Trump as was done to Aaron the first Hight Priest and his sons during the exodus from Egypt. Context, context, context.
Trump is not a Jewish priest living under the Mosaic covenant, and he would be the first to tell you this. He is a man who loves his family, loves his country, and loves God – now probably more than ever. It was God’s will that allowed Trump to serve as our 45th president and hopefully God’s will can return him to the White House as our 47th president.
With that said, we are extremely grateful to God that His divine providence and grace spared the life of Trump at that rally in Butler Pennsylvania. Sadly, former fire chief, Corey Comperatore did not survive the bullet, from wherever it came.
Divine providence is the governance of God by which He, with wisdom and love, cares for and directs all things in the universe. God is never out of control. Satan can do his worst, yet even the evil that is tearing the world apart is working toward a greater, final purpose. We can’t see it yet. But we know that God allows things for a reason and that His plan is good. It must be frustrating for Satan. No matter what he does, he finds that his plans are thwarted and something good happens in the end.
So back to proper context when reading or applying Scripture. The post on X associating the blood on Trump’s ear with the consecrating of Aaron the High Priest in 1445 B.C. is a misuse and misapplication of God’s Word. While we support, love, and respect President Trump for his love of country and his leadership, we must avoid taking to any other level that could resemble “idol worship.” That is a very slippery slope for anyone.
The Apostle Paul gave this advice to his protégé, Timothy, it is one to which we all should give proper attention: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
Keep our President Trump and his family; the family of Corey Comperatore; the church; our government; Israel; and our nation as a whole in prayer. Stay tuned in to the truth, get involved in the upcoming election, and vote! God bless America!
